From the recording Blue Water

The sea, among other things, is a wonderful source of metaphor. I wrote this song in anticipation of my granddaughter’s first big heartbreak. You know it’s coming. We’ve all been there. She was two years old at the time, but you’ve got to stay ahead of the game if you’re going to be a good grandparent.

Lyrics

I know you’re hurtin’, I know you’re down
But one thing’s for certain, it’ll turn around
So lay down your sorrows and take a walk with me
And maybe tomorrow you’ll begin to see

Well I’m just an old fool, but I’ve been around
So call me old school when I share the things I’ve found
Things that keep me going, that get me through each day
Through hard times and heartache, when I think I’ve lost my way

Ch: Let your love roll easy, what you have is enough
Keep it light and breezy, when the going gets rough
Because the highest mountain
Is just a pile of sand
And everything that you need is
In the palm of your hand

Look at that ocean with the sky all around
Always in motion, but a few feet down
You’ll find still waters, calm and deep and wide
Your heart is an ocean if you’ll just look inside

Ch:

You see that tall ship with the wind in her sails
You’ll see her bow dip with the oncoming swells
But she keeps on sailing to some far-off land
So you keep on sailing, your life is at your command

Ch X 2

Everything that you need is
In the palm of your hand
